We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jack Abernathy on July 3, 2025. Jack was an invaluable part of the Outreach East family for many years, serving with unwavering dedication as both a volunteer and a member of our Board of Directors.
His commitment to our mission was profound, and as Jan Lebert, director of Outreach East, shared, “Once he took on a project he would not give up or take no for an answer.”
Jack’s forward-thinking approach and ability to connect Outreach with new community members were instrumental in our growth. Beyond his tireless work, Jack’s wonderful sense of humor brightened every room. His legacy of service to the Davison community, including his time as a teacher, City Council member, mayor, and his 28-year tenure as City Manager, speaks volumes about his character and dedication to making Davison a wonderful place to live. The Jack N. Abernathy Regional Park stands as a testament to his vision and impact. Jack will be profoundly missed by all of us at Outreach East and by the countless lives he touched.
